Facebook Profiles Helping Families & Friends Cope with Loss / Tragedy through Remembrance & Community

This morning I came across 72U's In Memory video on Plainwhite Tom. It lead to an epiphany that subconsciously facebook has helped me too personally deal with the departure of friends and family, and one finds comfort in knowing we don't have to grieve alone. Sharing memories, stories, birthday notifications can celebrate life and trigger memories amongst all the politics and noise.

IN MEMORY 

In Memory tells the story of one community’s digital journey through the life, death and remembrance of PlainWhite Tom, a Chicago street performer who tragically took his life on January 1, 2013. For this community, Facebook was the stage for the events prior to and after PlainWhite Tom’s death. The film is recognized by Vimeo as a ‘Staff Pick’ and has screened at seven film festivals internationally.
